David Alan Harvey

Born in San Francisco in 1944, raised in Virginia, David Alan Harvey discovered photography at the age of eleven. Harvey purchased a used Leica with savings from his newspaper route and began photographing his family and neighborhood in 1956. When he was twenty, David lived with and documented the lives of a black family living in Norfolk, Virginia. With these photographs he published his first book "Tell It Like It Is" in 1966.
