David,

Could you tell more about those pictures, circumstances and people on it? I would like to know how those picutres was made. Did Yel posing? Did you drop in on her or maybe you met her on the stairs? How did you get to this party?!
Regards.

Your neighbours all seem to be much better looking than mine............

alan,

i was sorry to miss your presentation at digital railroad a couple of weeks ago... my wife and i just had twins, so schedules are a bit up in the air. but, getting invited there got me to come here, and that's a good thing. great atmosphere, great blog, great voice. bravo.

best regards,

aric mayer

whoops, david,

i started out by calling you alan. it's the sleep deprivation kicking in.

ed...

you have some very interesting work....i would like to see more.....

aric..

thanks for joining us here ...new twins are a pretty good excuse for not making my presentation!!! boys or girls???

david,

we are so lucky as to have one of each. laszlo and chloe... they are five weeks old and growing like crazy. i'm also having a great time photographing them. they seem to change on a daily basis.

david, thanks for your words...appreciated. here's a couple more from that night and there's a few more that i haven't looked at yet.

thanks, ed. nice work.

ed...

truly great work...full of dark mystery and intrigue....just enough there and just enough not there....

stay in touch....

aric....

i missed your website the first time around, but just had a look...nice style and feel to your landscapes....you have just that extra touch...

seeing katrina in the sunshine and nice warm light, but depicting such destruction was particularly interesting for me...

David,

Thanks for looking and thanks for your thoughts. I had an exhibition in New Orleans last year to commemorate the first anniversary of Katrina where I explored that intersection between natural beauty and destruction. The exhibition was titled "Balance + Disorder." Being in the city right after Katrina was a very ambiguous and ambivalent experience. Such incredible destruction and at the same time, a real beauty and stillness. The residents of New Orleans really responded to that aspect of the work. It was very moving for me to be able to present it there in that format. Columbia Journalism Review did an online interview with me about the work, the experience of covering the storm and some of the aesthetic implications of trying to capture such an event in photographs. if you are interested, you can read more about that at

david, aric...thanks and will do.

I love all three of these pictures, but especially the second one. I'm looking forward to seeing more from the project.

Like capturing fireflies in a bottle - full of energy bursts.
