Could you tell more about those pictures, circumstances and people on it? I would like to know how those picutres was made. Did Yel posing? Did you drop in on her or maybe you met her on the stairs? How did you get to this party?!
Regards.
these are just two more photos of the series i am doing on my building...yelena and her mother are from Sweden and live just upstairs....both of these pictures were made at the after party after the after party after magnum 60th bash when everyone decided to invade my apartment for a little "fete" that lasted until 4am....and i had to be at our business meeting the next morning at 9am!!! somebody took a picture of me asleep at the meeting, but i will not post that picture!!
So how seriously are you pursuing this series David? It would be interesting, there are a lot of characters there. Love the first shot, very moody. Im actually shooting a series now in anticipation of your coming to Seoul. You said "get busy" and thats what Im doing:)
it seems more interesting to me all the time....will shoot more this week...and , of course, i have many that i have not posted...should be in seoul first week of august...
1st week in August, thats great...send me an e-mail when would be the best time to meet. In August Ill be working from 9 am till about noon so after that Im totally free.
looking forward to seeing more from this project of yours. especially some pics from your stairwell. the light and texture in there....man, pretty sweet.
here's a couple of snaps from the after party party...
i was sorry to miss your presentation at digital railroad a couple of weeks ago... my wife and i just had twins, so schedules are a bit up in the air. but, getting invited there got me to come here, and that's a good thing. great atmosphere, great blog, great voice. bravo.
we are so lucky as to have one of each. laszlo and chloe... they are five weeks old and growing like crazy. i'm also having a great time photographing them. they seem to change on a daily basis.
Thanks for looking and thanks for your thoughts. I had an exhibition in New Orleans last year to commemorate the first anniversary of Katrina where I explored that intersection between natural beauty and destruction. The exhibition was titled "Balance + Disorder." Being in the city right after Katrina was a very ambiguous and ambivalent experience. Such incredible destruction and at the same time, a real beauty and stillness. The residents of New Orleans really responded to that aspect of the work. It was very moving for me to be able to present it there in that format. Columbia Journalism Review did an online interview with me about the work, the experience of covering the storm and some of the aesthetic implications of trying to capture such an event in photographs. if you are interested, you can read more about that at
