korean students

there was some rather impressive work done  in my recent class at the Boda Art Center for Photography  in Seoul....there were two classes...one for university students and one for "adults"..the class was only four days long, so the students actually had limited shooting time...

i will now show two photographers...first,  a young man whose personalized essay was on the daily life of a teenage friend .. secondly, a dedicated  young woman who dealt with a tough important journalistic story ... both 24 year olds were from the  university group who photographed these compelling essays in only two days...

upcoming

fall is going to be busy...

here are two  thoughts for you...more to come soonest...

(1)   Magnum is giving free portfolio reviews at Visa P'our L'Image Festival this year (Perpignan)....selected portfolios will be critiqued in a public forum......september 3-6 are the dates for these reviews for those interested...more details will be here later and on the Magnum website...several Magnum photographers will be on hand...

(2)   this fall  i am teaching  two photographic workshops from my new york loft....this is an experience for talented and very dedicated photographers.....selected photographers will be shooting individual essays and have incisive and honest daily critiques resulting in a slide show to be shown in front of new york editors and established photographers ...there will also be  a simultaneous print exhibition of their work....the first class, at the end of september,  now is  full with 12 students....the second class, set for the second week in october has (i think) 3 or 4 places open...inquiries should be made to my workshop coordinator,  marie arago (mariearago@mac.com).....

my teaching will be punctuated by guest appearances from the best in the biz....last year, my guests were photographers eugene richards, james nachtwey, samantha appleton, brenda ann keneally, chris anderson, and ed kashi... mary ann golon (Time, Director of Photography), david griffin (National Geographic, Director of Photography) , susan welchman (National Geographic, Ilustrations Editor), brian storm (Media Storm) were some of the editors on hand to "jam" with me ...the "cast" may change a bit this year depending on individual schedules, but i will make it equally compelling...

if you do decide to join us, we promise  you a week to remember and treasure....it will be practicality mixed with philosophy mixed with some very very hard work mixed with a lot of fun....the whole point is to give you a realistic vision and presentation  of you and your work in the new york and international  marketplace so that you may best follow your dreams....
