Really really nice work from all three. If we're picking favorite images (vs essays) I would have to say the first two from Kevin are killer. Also like the first and last from Chris. All good though.
All of them did a good job! I am also really nice supriced about "In the night" story! is really interesting...
I also know Andrew was working very hard on his story and it's really good one, too!
The second subject is something that has always interested me, the first shot is unforgettable, from the contrast between the shoes, the urban machoism of the young man, and the sitting "ladies" who, I believe are not pretending to be but what they are. Sorry this essay does not come with a few lines.
The 3rd essay, as I see it, has everything to do with light, and moods thru the different hues, that artificial light throws into a space or a face, which also create closed spaces. Are we in, are we out?
There is a wonderful poetic coherence in the 1st subject, Not just from the blueness common to all shots, but the minimalism Asher talked about. It comes, it seems, from the distance between each person and us.The music has stopped, the kiss, so close, is not on our lips, turning back, and I can't make out, forbidden (expensive) games of sorts?
yet, we don't know (ink blue is the color of mystery) . The arms, integral parts in each shot, invite us to see a silent pantomime. we are all mimes, playing the side of our-selves that only comes out when the night swallows us in.
Bravo for the 3 of you. We want more, and David, what with the video links?
Wow, that one from Andrew with the guy next to the jukebox is fantastic! Looks like something from Bill Allard's blues work.
Kevin G's project had so many awesome shots, david you should post the one where she's walking out of the club and two people are making out in the background...if you get a chance...
The workshop was one hell of an experience! Thanks all for looking; having this little online show is an added bonus on to what was already a rare opportunity:)
Great to see the work coming from these workshops, especially since I couldn't be there myself. I'm a long time reader and first time commenter.. have to say this community seems to get more impressive by the week. Hope I can start contributing some comments too.
On a more personal note (sorry all) - David, Laara Matsen suggested I get in touch about maybe meeting up in New York soon. I'm a young photojournalist coming to show a new book and pitch a story around town 10/25-11/5. Hoping you might be willing and able to get together?
we are a little behind with this, but all essays will be shown in their complete and proper context with a link soonest...
MATT...
i will be pleased to see you and your work...but it looks like our schedules do not match...i am in brazil now and will not be back in new york until nov. 9...too bad...but if your schedule changes or you can make it back another time, you are welcomed to come over to the studio...
Thank you so much for posting my story here. It's an honor to be featured on your site next to the great work by Chris and Kevin. I hope to carry the lessons learned in your workshop with me as I take the next step in my career.
They are all very great, but Chris Bickford's series is my favorite, the intimacy is excellent and the pool table kisser shot is especially strong. The continuity of the blue tint compliments it all.
I like all three series. It think my favorite is the first: the minimalism, the color, the light ..nice work.
Really good work for all three projects. I can see from these the photographers were really trying, thinking, pushing ..and that's the greatest thing about it all.
These are just beautiful.

As Erica says... beautiful.
Andrew Sullivan's set is my favorite. Very cool.

All 3 are very strong, but Chris Bickford's "In the Night" is my favorite for the minimalist compositions and the intensity.

love all the work--each story has beautiful complexity
my eye keeps going to individual image of Andrew's--the woman applying lipstick--simple moment that says a lot

Most excellent work.

The level of talent here is humbling. I'm rather awe struck quite frankly.

I'll be keeping a close eye on Mr. Chris Bickford's work. That's for sure. Positively luminous.

David - unlucky timing, but we'll find a raincheck for some other time I'm sure. Have a good time down there in Brazil!

David,
ooh. for me second one - inthenight 008 is the best one from herepictures ;) emotions and low light, I like it ..
hmm, I think I'm a bit similar to You with cameras - I don't do studio photos, I can't see here Yours from there,
I'm very young and I don't have money for profi stuff
but I'm a big boy so fact that d70s is the biggest from d70, d80 and 300d [which I actually have], will be ok for me
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=nikon_d80%2Cnikon_d70s%2Ccanon_eos300d&show=all
[here is the comparison]
I've got the same sensor actually and I also do a big prints, from jpegs only :D
so , I've got offer for d70s with 1,5year of guarantee and about 350 euro lower price than d80, so for some time it will be this one.
anyway, thanks for reply, good luck and maybe see You somewhen :)
ps when I'll do some pics, which are ok I'll show them You if You only want, here is one egzample, which I like, the other aren't worth of seeing.
